A few answers to some of your questions...
Who can participate?
Anyone of any age provided they are an Edinburgh resident. Participants aged 16 and under must have support from a responsible adult to apply.
How can I take part?
Apply online with a short summary of your idea. A small graphic may also be submitted to enhance your application.
Would I have to pay to rent the space?
No. The idea of the space leasing concept is that it is funded by outside bodies allowing for greater accessibility to this prime site on Princes Street. In the current financial climate we imagine that the free space could be used to give much needed publicity to starting up businesses for example.
How would projects be selected?
There would be a continuous online public vote for the projects submitted. Winners will be finalised at the end of 3 month periods, therefore giving winning projects a minimum of three months to prepare.
Will spaces during the Edinburgh Festival and Christmas period be allocated on the same basis as the rest of the year?
No. During these periods the spaces will be available to anyone, whether they are from the Edinburgh community or not. This is in order to broaden the impact of the spaces, embrace the multicultural nature of Edinburgh during these months and to allow for crossing over of successful projects from other 1community members.
Can I apply more than once?
Yes. It is entirely up to the people of Edinburgh which projects are granted the spaces, therefore you can apply for as many of the votes as you wish.
How would the project be funded?
1EH will potentially be funded by grants from outside bodies. We envisage that the money put in will pay dividends in increasing future business prospects within the community and will, in fact, reduce the overall impact of the current recession in years to come.
How many spaces would there be?
It has not yet been finalised exactly how many spaces could be available for rent however at the moment we are estimating it to be about a dozen.
How long will the project run for?
As long as it can have a positive impact on the community in which it is located.
