1community is an evolving project aiming to provide an international platform for sustainable community development and regeneration. Physical bases and virtual networks will link people from all backgrounds in collectively designed projects aimed at providing the framework for community owned and run multifunctional centres. It will stimulate a vibrant and diverse range of outcomes but will serve the single purpose of enhancing the quality of life for communities across the world.
At this moment in history, the world faces unprecedented economic challenges - fragile economies are struggling to grow and demand for a new way of community development is soaring. The city continues its decline into an impersonal, unsocial and hostile environment in which individual pursuits increasingly diminish the commitment to community living. However, those very people who currently exist oblivious to neighbours around them could be used to save them.
1community will help humanity achieve a sustainable and viable method of reconnecting modern city populations. It will inject a beneficial human scheme of space appropriation, submitted and voted for by the people, for the people.
1community offers a shining example for our shared future. The circular nature of the scheme allows it to act as a stage – facilitating a positive, crucial and much needed boost to both the communal and the economic life within the city. It is a socially driven project where commercial uses directly support the provision of free leasing spaces within its body. These bodies are situated in prime locations which were previously unattainable to small groups or individuals from the community.
The project serves to host a multi-disciplinary community of organisations, individuals, groups and ideas. Those benefit from the on site spaces, as well as those affiliated through a wider online network of collaboration and community support will together create a new, mutually-supportive public.
